We have taught Calvin how to write "N" but after trying it both frontward and backwards he decided he likes it backwards better and so he continues to do it that way!

Parent Teacher Conferences...
were this week at Calvin's preschool. The teacher had prepared a form with dozens of skills, behaviors, etc. and telling me if Calvin was generally accomplishing that skill or still working on it. He is doing really well in school and seems to get along with everyone and follow instructions and is polite and loving to teachers and students alike. (If only he were so well behaved at home!) One thing that is special about calvin is that he is very affectionate -- in this case, it is true of him at home as well. he likes to give hugs and he'll put his arm around someone if they are sad. It is nice. The teacher also showed some samples of his work -- such as cutting on lines, tracing shapes, writing his name and drawing a picture of himself! The picture cracked me up!! I've never seen him draw people at home, so it was something brand new to me. I appreciated the opportunity to talk to the teacher for a few minutes and happy to know that Calvin is doing well in school. He has been behind in some areas (speech, language, vision, hearing...) for a while so it was especially good to know that he is getting along just fine after being worried about him for so long. And, we're still worried about the vision and hearing but relieved that it doesn't appear to be stunting his academic and emotional development as we have been concerned about before.

We have taught Calvin how to write "N" but after trying it both frontward and backwards he decided he likes it backwards better and so he continues to do it that way!

Oh, Denise! That's so great. We're all a little behind in something. I'm glad to hear everything is going well and that he can cut on the lines! :) He's a great kid and that's an awesome self portrait. Keep it forever.

Fabulous self portrait Calvin--what a treasure!
cute! we just had the same little conference at evan's school! he also writes his N backwards.
I love those pictures of heads with legs and arms. Olivia's friend recently corrected and told her that people needed bodies, too, and I was sad to give up the old way of drawing people. Good for you for documenting his self-portrait, that's definitely a treasure.
Nothing like a tender boy. Honestly, I hope he never loses that, because most boys are so rough. Glad he's doing well!
