at the fair

Clare's singing group was singing at the fair so we all went (during Dave's week off). This pic seriously cracks me up. Clare is on the far right side sitting and she looks so bored! She did that through the entire first while waving her flag and everything!

"How much is that doggie in the window?"

The fair is really fun. A traditional county fair w/ shows, exibits, and all the animal competitions. I really enjoyed looking at everything.

petting zoo

Shi wanted Calvin to go on all the rides. He was happy to do that and had a lot of fun. I had to go on one w/ them b/c calvin was too short to go w/o an adult. It was scary. I thought I'd die for sure.

Lex got to go on one baby ride and loved it and screamed a lot when we took her off!

And Clare who was scared of the rides got to paint her face.

Clare also learned about where hot dogs come from. She loved looking at the huge pigs. Dave said, "Clare did you know hot dogs come from pigs?" Clare said, "Oh, do they poop them out?" What's crazy is that she wasn't the least bit concerned to learn that hot dogs are actually poop.

just because she's cute....

She is looking older all the time. She is currently 2 years 3 months old. This is quite possibly my favorite picture of her ever because it shows her real genuine smile.

This is her favorite "mi-mi" b/c it has bears on it. All of her other ones are just plain white.

We had a rousing game of peek-a-boo w/ the mi-mi (hence the crazy hair).

Then she got upset b/c clare didn't share the lipstick.

And then she was happy again and wanted me to take pics inside her mouth.

summer

I do love summer (until it gets too hot)! It is so nice to not to have to be at school every day and constantly on a schedule. I am sure I will be happy to have the routine of school starting again but it is sure nice to have a change of pace.

The kids have had fun playing together at home. We've had a few beach trips and pool trips. We like to swim w/ friends at swim clubs and community pools until ours gets warm. Last week the kids went out to "help" dave w/ some yard work in the back and decided to test out our pool. They didn't have swim suits so instead they swam in birthday suits! This happens at least once or twice a year.

Some pics from one of our beach trips. Torrey Pines beach is probably our favorite beach overall.

Calvin will be a good boogie-boarder this summer.

Clare likes the water too but is very careful still.

Just love Alexey.

Alexey has really bad rashes on her skin and can't really get in the water or it hurts her a lot. We are trying to figure out if it is allegries, excema or someother skin issue.

Some other summer things we're doing.
-art classes for Calvin and Clare every other wed.

- book club for the kids. Read little house on the prarie book 1 and next up is Mr. Poppers Penguins. we are hosting that one.

- it is great to have Pete and Jessica in town.

-scott and lance are coming soon.

- lots of fun mutual activites

-girls camp at coronado beach.

-free movies at the big theatre.

-every other Monday FHE at the beach.

-went to bakersfield to see the cousins

alexey sings to parker

we have the cutest nephew, parker. Yesterday Alexey sang to him. We were lucky to catch his sweet smile!

tressel

remember when he was this small? It was about a year ago.

remember when calvin cut his hair and we had to shave his head?

now he is bigger, but still spends most of his life w/ the girls hanging all over him.

here, alexey is sharing her favorite blankets w/ him.

Calvin Speed Gonda

This week it was Calvin's turn for pictures. He was super cooperative and very happy to go get his picture taken. His school pictures this year weren't that great and I have been wanting to do some new ones for a while.

This is his mischevious face. I see it pretty often.

Calvin is 7 and a half now. My how the time goes by!

3 years down, 4 to go!

This week we celebrated the graduation of the outgoing chief resident in Dave's neurosurgery program. It is a very special occasion and a great chance to get together w/ everyone from the department. We had a nice reception and dinner at a hotel in Torrey Pines. It was great!
(a special thanks to Jessica for being my fashion consultant and Sheri for being the necklace provider.)

Here are all of the past and present UCSD residents. Andy, the graduate of last night is in the center front row (the asian guy).

Here is the entire department. Front and center next to Andy, is the new chairman of UCSD neurosurgery, Bob Carter who came to SD from Harvard this year. He has 5 kids and a lovely wife and he is a BYU grad! (not many of those in Nsurg so that is kind of fun!)

Dave is just finishing up his 3rd year of residency. July 1st he will go to the VA hosptial and then he will go into 2 years of elective/research time which he is very exctied for. He is trying to figure out how best to use that time since he has the freedom to do whatever he wants -- basic science, nsurg research, enfolded fellowship, etc. Even though the residency is 1000000 years long it is going by quickly and we are having a good time along the way!

At home, ready to go!

one of my laurels did my hair again. It was perfect!
