report cards

Kids brought home the 2nd trimester report cards today. We had to laugh at the contrast. For Clare in K the grading is pretty simple. Most kids get 3's (achieving standards) and M's (meets expectations) unless there is a real problem or something that is really outstanding. Clare is doing well in all subjects, has great effort and is a pleasure to have in class. She is outstanding a category called: follows directions and a few other areas. To quote her teacher "I love having Clare in my class!" Clare is an angel.

Calvin is quite the opposite. He got all I's for (needs improvement) in effort and behavior skills except for cooperates with others and effort in PE. I will post some more about his report card at my other blog.

Wonderful Alexey

All about Alexey at 4 years old

Alexey is very cute! She has a sweet bubbly personality and a sunny disposition most of the time. Sometimes she forgets to be sunny and instead decides to be obnoxious. She likes to tease Calvin when he is in a bad mood. Her favorite person lately is Daddy. She loves to attach herself to him and today even wanted to stay home and sit on his lap rather than go play with a friend (very unusual for her to think anything is better than being with a friend)! Alexey loves to go get in bed with little JoJo when she hears her wake up in the morning or from a nap. The two girls will play together for a few minutes before I pull Jo out of bed. They both love this time. Lexey also loves to bounce, shake, drag Jo on the floor and try anything to get her to laugh. Jo seems to really like all of this tortue. I will tell Alexey, "alexey, you're being too rough, be more gentle." and she will say, "but look, little jojo is laughing. she likes it."

Alexey is super competitive and fiesty. One of my very sweet friends played a game with her and said, "wow, she really wanted to win!" The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. When we play games together at home I have to try to teach her to play by the rules because she will cheat to win. Alexey seems to be quite coordinated and also musical so I think she will have some fun areas to work on as she gets older and will enjoy some good competition through sports and music!

Alexey ADORES her sister Clare. The two of them can play for hours. While Clare is the sweet and nurturing one, Lexey is the funny and wild one. The girls play make believe, mom and baby, teacher and student and who knows what else. It is so wonderful! This week Lex said to me, "mom I laughed so hard, I barfed. just a little." Several times this year I have checked clare out of school early just so she could have some time to play with (babysit) Alexey so that could get some stuff done while Calvin was at school!

Alexey loves cheerios and milk. She could eat this 3 meals a day. If I am sick or not cooking for some reason, she easily resorts to this. She also likes bread and butter. Those two things are our go to snacks for her.

Lex is girly like clare. She likes to dress up and sing and dance and feel beautiful.

Alexey is learing to write and about letters and reading. She knows some words like, MOM, DAD and her own name. I am trying to be more dilligent about teaching her letters and numbers becuase I can tell that she is really ready for these things.

Lex LOVES her dad! She would rather sit on his lap than go anywhere (much to his dismay when he is trying to get work done). She is a "barnacle" in full force!

Lexey recently started speech therapy at the kids' elementary school. She loves to go to school like the big kids! She is practicing pronuncition. She is very cooperative and sweet with her teacher. Alexey is looking foward to being in K in just another year and a half. Since next year is my last year with Lex at home we are going to buy zoo passes and go on some fun days to the zoo and wild animal park with her and little Jo.

We are lucky to have Alexey in our family. She is so fun and it will be great to see her grow and learn new things!

today's photos

jojo is the cutest baby!! WE all just love her. some photos are kind of blurry but you still get the idea about how cute she is.

this is my view as I hold her all day. LOVE IT!!!

Lexey was here! (can you tell?!)

We had a birthday party at the park with some friends for Alexey who is 4 years old today! Lexey requested we have pizza and cupcakes at the park with friends.

I think the kids' favorite part was chasing dave around at the very end.

They also liked the races we did.

Lexey is very silly.

one sided interview with The Biggest Poway Loser

Yes, I did win.

Yes, there was a cash prize. I used some of it to fill up my car with gas and the rest I will use to buy a zoo pass so Lexey and I can go to the zoo for her last year at home with me.

Yes, my jeans/shorts/shirts all fit.

No, I have not stuck with my goals since the competition ended. I have eaten a bunch of junk in the last couple of weeks and feel very icky as a result.

Yes, I am ashamed to admit that I am so competitive. I love competition. I can't think of many things that I love more.

Yes, I know, I need to figure out a way to set up a competition with myself to keep stick with all of my good goals!

the dog

I have been trying for weeks to get a picture of jo jo and the dog. They are starting to notice each other more and more. (for the first couple of months I didn't let tressel near the baby. Now I give him a little more leeway to sniff and occasionally kiss her too!) Jo will lay on the floor playing and roll over to the dog and pull on his ears and try to grab his hair. He is tolerant of course.

I tried several times and here are a few attempts to get a picture of the two of them:

the main reason tressel ever finds himself next to jo is because he is trying to be right next to me. One time he nudged himself right in between us.

one night I went in to check on clare and found her sleeping at the foot of her bed next to Tressel.

Clare borrowed the camera to take these pictures of tressel. When she saw the pictures she was very pleased and how cute they turned out! It thought it was funny how much she liked the pictures. To me I see just a dumb dog on the couch, but she things he is so cute!

new blog

I decided to keep notes on what is going on with Calvin. If you ever want to ask, "so, how are things with Calvin?" you will find your answer here:

http://lovemycalvinboy.blogspot.com/

These notes are mostly for my records so they may or may not be edited, politically correct, or polished. I may or may not leave it here in the open for everyone to see so don't be offended if one day I decide to keep it to myself and block everyone else from reading it!

Alexey joy school

This year Alexey has been in Joy School. What a great experience this has been for her! She loves her joy school friends and each of their homes (as do I)!
Here are a few pictures from the year of joy school.
1st day of joy school:

They visited a petting zoo in the fall and got to bring home a small pumpkin!

They practiced a nativity and then performed it for the grandmas and grandpas at a rest home at Christmas time. Alexey was a shepherd.

We also went on a field trip to the science center and since I was in charge that day I totally failed at getting a picture. But, I didn't lose any children so I am still sort of pleased with how that trip went!! :)

Alexey is the youngest kid in her joy school. She is the only one still 3 years old. Everyone else was 4 by the first week of January. Next year she will do joy school again and will be one of the older kids. It will be a good experience for her. Hopefully she will be a good example!

a glimpse of our crazy house

Today Calvin and Clare handed Dave and almond and said, "here Dad. This is an almond for you." Without even a touch of caution Dave popped it in his mouth. As he did so, the kids fell to the ground laughing saying, "that almond had both of our boogers on it."

Advice from Dave: NEVER eat anything a kid hands you.

He has known that he shouldn't but for some reason got suckered into it today.

snow

Dave took Calvin and Alexey and the dog to palomar mountian to see snow. It is about an hour away from home. For Tressel it was his first time ever! Lexey went once when she was about 1 years old so this is her first time within memory. She loved it and was so excited to be there . . . until her hands got cold. She got some snow on her gloves and then washed it off in a snow puddle!

Tressel LOVED IT!!!
